Jik'iZinto

A youth movement for South Africa, on screen, on the dancefloor, in your phone and on your street.

Made with young South Africans, about what they told us matters most: their minds, their bodies and their money.

The brief

Almost half of young people in South Africa are out of work. Give them a reason to hope, and the tools to act on it, for their minds, their bodies and their money.

Our manifesto film. A rally cry for young South Africans to step up, step out and seize the moment.

Building the brand

Made with them.
Loud on purpose.

I led the development of the Jik'iZinto brand, co-creating it with young South Africans. Their slang, their music and their attitude, in colours you can't scroll past.

The brand book

56 pages of colour, type, bubbles, doodles and stickers, so every partner and creator could make Jik'iZinto their own.

How it works

Not a campaign.
A movement.

Jik'iZinto lives where young people already spend their time, then makes it easy to take the next step.

Show up

Community outreach, live Q&As, campus activations and the Jik'iZinto Youth Festival.

The people on the ground who turn interest into a clinic visit.

What changed

Independent endline, 4,079 young women
65%of young women who engaged had tested for HIV or STIs, against 55% who hadn't.
56%used contraception, against 46% who hadn't engaged.
+21ptsin using formal mental-health services, when the chatbot worked alongside outreach.
55→75%HIV testing rose with every channel she engaged with, from none to three.

The more of Jik'iZinto a young woman lived in, the more she acted. Young women engaging across five channels were over four times more likely to take up economic support.

Compares young women exposed to Jik'iZinto with those who weren't, across four provinces, 2024 to 2026.

Where AI fits

The chatbot works best with people beside it

Big Sis was the single platform most consistently linked to young women seeking care. But the biggest jump came when the chatbot and community outreach worked together.

What I learned

Hope is a health strategy.Young people don't plan for their health if they can't see a future. Minds, bodies and money belong in the same conversation.
A chatbot is not a strategy.Big Sis did its best work when people on the ground brought young women to it. Layer the human and the digital.
It still takes an ecosystem.Ten years after Ni Nyampinga, the lesson held. The more channels she lived in, the more she changed.
